GCU starts tree plantation campaign

LAHORE – The Government College University (GCU), Lahore Botany Department on Thursday kicked off a tree plantation campaign with the aim of celebrating 2011 as the International Year of Forests. GCU Vice-Chancellor Dr Ikramul Haq inaugurated the event by planting a tree at the varsity’s Sports Complex. Addressing the ceremony, Ikram urged Ravians to plant at least one tree during the campaign and directed the botany department to issue saplings to students for plantation.
He said that GCU will celebrate the International Year for Forests and raise awareness about conservation. The VC said that GCU had set a target of planting more than 10,000 trees in Lahore and GCU New Campus at Kala Shah Kaku. Ikram urged faculty members and students to ensure conservation of each tree they plant.
