At least four persons were killed and five others wounded when gunmen opened fire during a jirga ( a gathering of unelected elders to make decisions) in Sindh’s Jacobabad town on Sunday.

Police said a jirga was being held in Jacobabad’s Mauladad area to settle a land dispute between two local clans when people from one of the two groups whipped out their weapons and fired shots at their rivals.

At least four people were killed in exchange of fire. Five others, including a cousin of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA Aijaz Jakhrani, sustained bullet injuries. They were shifted to civil hospital Jacobabad.

On receiving information, police reached the location and launched a search operation but the assailants fled the scene uncaught.
