FAISALABAD – The city government has announced a master plan to reconstruct the building of Municipal Library, Iqbal Park, one of the oldest public libraries of Faisalabad, at a cost of Rs 40 million. Rs 1.3 million have been earmarked for the renovation and uplift of Allama Iqbal Library as well. Of these funds, Rs 400,000 have been earmarked for the purchase of furniture while books will be purchased for Rs 300,000. This was disclosed at a meeting held at Allama Iqbal Library with DCO Naseem Sadiq in the chair.
The DCO directed the officers that regular monitoring should be carried out for timely completion of these schemes and ordered transparent use of funds. Executive District Officer (EDO) Literacy Asif Tarar briefed the participants of the meeting on the pace of department work and said these libraries would be developed on scientific lines to address the intellectual needs of the readers, including students, teachers, researchers and book lovers. He hoped a new look to these knowledge houses would strengthen the literacy drive and promote the reading habits in the common man.
