Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid has said the government is committed to provide equal constitutional rights of tribal people beside protection of their traditions and customs.
Addressing the new office bearers of Tribal Union of Journalists after taking oath in Islamabad on Thursday‚ he said people and journalists of tribal areas of Pakistan are passing through unusual circumstances due to Afghan conflict. He said journalists in particular have given countless sacrifices in the line of their duties. He paid tributes to those tribal journalists who became victim of terrorism.
Rashid said that strictly abiding their oath for the tribal journalists is more challenging than journalists of settled areas as they are exposed to terrorism. He assured the government will discourage discrimination among journalists.
The minister also assured the tribal journalists that all their demands will be fulfilled after thorough deliberation with the president of Tribal Union of Journalists‚ Parliamentary Secretary Mohsin Raja and Press Information Officer.
Earlier‚ the parliamentary secretary said the government is working on formulation of a comprehensive policy regarding journalists’ protection.
