UK to make student visa policy more strict

LONDON – British government has announced a radical shake-up of the student visa policy. Tougher entrance criteria, limits on work entitlements and the closure of the post-study work route are amongst the changes in the student visa policy unveiled by Home Secretary Theresa May on Tuesday. Immigration officers will have the power to refuse entry to foreign students if they fail to speak English. Similarly, tens of thousands of dependants will also be stopped from joining overseas students after the implementation of the new policy from April 2012.
Only postgraduate students and government-sponsored students will be able to bring their dependants to Britain. According to new rules, the government will limit the overall time that can be spent on a student visa to 3 years at lower levels and 5 years at higher levels. Tier 1 (Post-study work) route, which allows students 2 years to seek employment after their course ends will be slashed from April 2012. Only graduates who have an offer of a skilled job from a sponsoring employer under Tier 2 of the points-based system will be able to stay to work.
Scottish parliament declares forced marriages ‘illegal’: Forced marriages were declared illegal by the Scottish parliament on Tuesday, which also introduced an imprisonment sentence of two years for the violator of the new law. The new rule will enable courts to issue forced marriage protection orders. Those at risk, or anyone worried about someone’s welfare, would be able to apply for an order, which will ensure that safety is provided to those in need. Forced marriages are the biggest problem faced by British Asians living in the UK and government has setup a Forced Marriage Unit (FMU) in the foreign office to deal with the rising numbers of cases.
Officials said that last year more than a thousand cases of the same were reported to the FMU and 15 percent of the victims were men. According to government source, in recent years the British government has taken various steps to eradicate forced marriages from the society. Marriage age has been increased 18 to 21 years and a tough English language requirement has been introduced for both grooms and brides coming to the UK from outside of EU.

anyway the new policies can not creat any problem i think, its quite depent on your ability if u meet the required requirement than apply for any type of visa to uk, if you have strong commitment, struggles , centiments and reliable sources than nothing is impossible so i agree the new policies from UK government for visa. nowone will accept the bogus students, and students are responsible for this situation because they notorus the image of student and their country. they only intend to earn money but they should intend to learn and come back to their country to serve their own nation.

They have to do it, if I look back since 6-7 years they have been allowing every tom and harry to have student visa while they are not students at all. Many are just matric pass lot and have no intention to study but work odd jobs. Simple abusing the system and giving bad name to Pakistan at the same time. Good students please apply for only university places in UK and dont waste your parents money on fake colleges that are worst than a tuition centres in Pakistan.

Tougher policy should be in place to stop bogus students entering UK and the work illegally. Those who can afford they are welcome to come, get education and go back to work for Pakistan. True Pakistanis are welcomed .
