Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said the government’s U-turn from dialogue for peace and turning to a military operation against the militants was beyond comprehension and surprising.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament House on Wednesday, Fazlur Rehman said it was shocking that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which since 2002 was against the war and talked about dialogues for restoration of peace, had changed stance suddenly.

Talking about the National Security Policy that was presented in the National Assembly by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, he said although the policy doesn’t stress over a military operation against militants, the attitude of the government reveals that it wants army action against militants in tribal areas.

The JUI-F chief said all political, religious and democratic parties still have the same stance of resolving the issue of extremism and terrorism through talks.

Fazl said that all All Parties Conferences (APCs) held since 2008 have agreed for dialogues for getting rid of terrorism.

He stressed that the government should clarify the reasons for changing its stance of talks and conducting a military operation instead.
