Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has vehemently rejected allegations of selling of arms to Saudi Arabia for use in Syria or any change in Pakistan’s policy towards conflict in the arab country under Saudi pressure.

Making a statement in the National Assembly (NA) Tuesday evening, Aziz said Pakistan is a responsible state and sells arms only through legal mechanism and by abiding all relevant national and international regulations. He said the sale of arms requires the end user certificate that the recipient would not sell them onward or transfer to any third country.

He clarified that the purpose of the visit of the Saudi Crown Prince to Pakistan was to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.

“They already have three agreements regarding exchange of military delegations, training and employment and deputation of defence personnel in Saudi forces,” he said.

The Advisor urged those spreading rumours to act responsibly in national interests and refrain from baseless propaganda.

The advisor clarified that the points relating to the Syrian conflict contained in Pakistan-Saudi Arabia joint statement at the conclusion the visit of the Saudi prince were in line with the consistent policy of Pakistan towards Syrian situation.

“Pakistan supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and cessation of hostilities by all sides,” he said, adding that Pakistan is against interference in the internal affairs of any country or to advance agenda of any other country.
