The federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday approved the five-year National Internal Security Policy (NISP) and demanded the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to announce an unconditional ceasefire.
The cabinet meeting, presided by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, concluded after hours of consultations over the internal security policy and current security situation.
Interior Minister Chaudary Nisar Ali Khan briefed the meeting over the NISP.
The policy was ratified by the cabinet.
The cabinet also agreed upon to demand an immediate and unconditional announcement of ceasefire from TTP.
Sources add that the cabinet has agreed upon conducting peace talks with some Taliban factions while carrying out military strikes against militants that continue to challenge writ of the state.
In the event of surgical strikes in the tribal areas, the meeting decided, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) will be given special packages for rehabilitation.
Federal Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch will be heading the committee for overlooking the IDPs, added the sources.
The NISP 2013-2018 will be announced in the National Assembly session on Wednesday by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
