Committee head shows satisfaction over PN’s operational preparedness and nation building efforts

A 13-member delegation of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Defence visited facilities and installations of Pakistan Navy at Karachi and coastal areas on Sunday.

The delegation visited Pakistan Navy Dockyard, submarine center and Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works. During the visit, a comprehensive briefing was given to the Committee on the emerging contemporary challenges in the region and Pakistan Navy’s response, measures and infrastructural upgrading of PN.

The committee was apprised on the adversary’s massive naval buildup particularly in context to acquisition of nuclear submarines which is a matter of concern not only for Pakistan but also for the regional peace. The Senate committee was also briefed on the indigenization programme of Pakistan Navy.

The committee undertook detailed visit of Jinnah Naval Base at Ormarah, considered as future home port of PN fleet, where they were briefed on various developmental projects of the Base which will help achieve early commencement of sustained fleet operations.

The committee was briefed on the nation building efforts along the Makran coast and PN measures aimed to socio-economic uplift of Baloch populace along the Makran Coastal belt. During visit of Cadet College Ormarah, the Committee Members were apprised of the facilities being provided by Pakistan Navy to the cadets and College’s planned developments so as to make it a premier training institution on the Makran Coast.

During visit of 100-bed hospital PNS Darmaan Jah, the committee was apprised that PN is extending free medical support/facilities to the Baloch population and coastal community in particular. The committee was also apprised of the humanitarian   assistance provided to the earthquake victims of Awaran.

During the visit to Gwadar Port, the committee was apprised that, in line with the vision of the naval chief, PN is committed to provide all out support for the development and early activation of Gawadar Port.

On the occasion, Senate’s Standing Committee on Defence Chairman Mushahid Hussain showed satisfaction over PN’s operational preparedness and nation building efforts, the committee assured their full support to PN in its future plans and designs for safeguarding the economic interest of Pakistan in Indian Ocean and its impregnable maritime defence.

The chairman also showed the committee’s commitment to raise the issue at appropriate forum for facilitating/fulfilling PN materialization of its force goals.
