146 posts lying vacant in 21 Gujranwala colleges

GUJRANWALA – As many as 146 posts of teachers are lying vacant in 21 colleges in Gujranwala district – 64 in seven boys’ colleges and 82 in 14 girls’ colleges – despite tall claims of the government to improve literacy in the province. A recent survey disclosed that there was not a single post of a BPS-20 professor in any of the 14 girls’ colleges in the district while eight posts of associate professors of BPS-19 out of total 34 had been lying vacant since long. Similarly, 97 assistant professors of BPS-18 are discharging their duties against 119 sanctioned posts and 22 posts are still to be filled. The situation is the worst in the cases of lecturers of BPS-17 as only 123 are working against 299 sanctioned posts and out of these, 89 have been appointed on contract basis.
On the other hand, in seven boys’ colleges, there are only four seats of professors of BPS-20 and three are working on permanent basis and one seat has been lying vacant since long while 43 associate professors of BPS-19 are working in the district against the sanctioned 60 posts. Only 83 assistant professors of BPS-18 are posted in these colleges against 125 posts and 42 seats are still lying vacant. Likewise, 230 sanctioned posts of lecturers of BPS-17 exist in the district and 35 are lying vacant while out of 195 posts, 50 lecturers were appointed on contract basis.
Completion of road before rainy season ordered: The Gujranwala divisional commissioner has asked Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to complete the construction of 21.87-kilometer-long Gujranwala-Daska section of Sialkot Road before the rainy season. This direction was made during a comprehensive briefing about this Rs 1.561.8 billion project, which was attended by DCO Barrister Nabil Ahmad Awan, Director Development Anwar Aziz, FWO Project Director Colonel Sibte Hassan Rana, Colonel Omar, Colonel Imran Zafar, Major Imran, Provincial Highways XEN Ajmal Kaleem Mirza and WASA Engineering Director Muhammad Arshad Maddan.
The dual road will be 30-feet wide and WASA has been paid Rs 400 million for the construction of drainage on both the sides of the roads. The commissioner reviewed various aspects of the project and urged the administration to remove all hurdles for smooth construction of the road which would facilitate the commuters in Gujranwala and Sialkot.
