‘Handwritten note’ found from cancer patient’s room says no one else should face fallback of his heinous crime

Investigators probing the killings of eight people from the same family in a JoharTown sector on Saturday said they had made a major breakthrough in the case as they had found a “confession note” written by the suspected murderer, Nazir Iqbal, from his room.

Sources in the police told Pakistan Today that the investigators had found a handwritten note from the room of Nazir Iqbal, a cancer patient, whose body was found on the top floor of the house in JoharTown’s E-1 Sector five days ago. Bodies of Nazir’s two brothers, their wives and three children were also found from the crime scene. All victims except Nazir had been murdered by smashing their heads with a hammer.

“I’ve killed my brothers and their families and am now ending my life too. No one else is to be blamed for the deaths,” the note reportedly written by Nazir stated.

With this revelation, the police sources believe that they can now put the investigations to rest even though there was no word on whether the hand writing on the letter had matched Nazir’s.

Zahid Iqbal, his wife Naseem and daughter Amina, 4; Shahid Iqbal, his wife Farzana and two children Areeba, 6, and Afaaq, 10, and Nazir Iqbal hailed from Jehanian Mandi, Multan. Zahid had five brothers of whom three have been killed. Among the survivors, two are living in America while the third is an advocate.

Nazir Iqbal was suffering from cancer and was unmarried. Shahid Iqbal was a contractor with the National Highways Authority (NHA) and Zahid Iqbal was serving as a lecturer in a local institution.

Nazir allegedly first sedated his victims and then killed them with a hammer. He then went up to his room and swallowed poisonous pills.

Sources said that the family was under huge loan due to the expenses borne for Nazir’s treatment. Some other family sources said that the brothers were also engaged in a dispute over family property.
