President wants Pak-China trade volume to $ 15b by 2015

President Mamnoon Hussain has called on the business community of Karachi and Shanghai to play their vital role in bolstering Pak-China bilateral trade volume from the current over $12 billion to $ 15 billion by 2015.

The president said this during his meeting with Communist Party Secretary Shanghai Hang Zheng in Shanghaion on Saturday.

Prof Ahsan Iqbal, minister for planning, development and reforms, Tariq Fatemi, minister of state for foreign affairs and ambassadors of the both countries were present during the meeting.

Welcoming the president to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, the party secretary assured that Shanghai would contribute in a major way to the development of Pak-China economic corridor. He also lauded the role of leadership of both the countries for anchoring relations on sold foundations. President Mamnoon Hussain said that fruitful discussions with the Chinese leadership during his visit would help further deepen bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The president expressed his delight to be in Shanghai this month while Shanghai and Karachi are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their sister-city relationship.

In connection with the anniversary celebrations, the president invited the party secretary to visit Karachi along with a business delegation.

The president said this visit would help bring both the commercial cities further closer and boost bilateral trade besides exploring new avenues of trade and investment.

The president expressed hope that with active involvement of the businessmen and entrepreneurs from Shanghai and Karachi, the trade target of $12 billion to $15 billion set by the both countries can easily be achieved. Mamnoon Hussain also thanked the party secretary and the Shanghai government for the warm hospitality extended to him and the accompanying delegation during their stay in Shanghai.
