RAWALPINDI-
Former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday appeared in a special court hearing treason charges against him, a private news channel reported.
Musharraf’s counsel Anwar Mansoor had assured the 3-member court bench that the ex-army strongman would appear in court today.
The bench was headed by Justice Faisal Arab.
Pervez Musharraf was not indicted during proceedings. The special court will announce its verdict on if the former president should be tried in a military court on Friday.
The hearing was adjourned until 21 February (Friday) and Musharraf left the premises.
Security was on high alert on the route of the former dictator from Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) to the special court.
He had been admitted to AFIC on January 2 when he complained of heart ache on his way to a court hearing.
Earlier, the Special Court had reserved its verdict for conducting treason trial of Musharraf under Army Act.
On February 7, the special court had order Musharraf to appear today.
He faces treason charges for abrogating the constitution by declaring an emergency in November 2007.
Sources says the 70-year-old former dictator left the AFIC on his own risk as doctors had suggested him not to do so.
He signed the medical certificate himself for leaving the facility.
Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed his views by tweeting,
“Positive development that Mush has appeared before the court. He’ll find there’s dignity to be found is facing such things honourably.”
