Deputy Consul General of Germany in Karachi, Hans Juergen Paschke, on Friday donated information technology equipment and electrical appliances worth 99,000 dollars to the Sindh Police.
The IT stock was handed over to Sindh Inspector General of Police, Shahid Nadeem Baloch, at a ceremony held at the central police office, said a press release.
The IT equipment and electrical appliances will be utilised by the Police Training College at Saeedabad area of the city to enhance computer and other professional skills of the trainee police officials.
The equipment donated are a part of the aid from the German government under the project ‘capacity development support to the Sindh Police’ being managed by the Gesellschaft Fuer International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The CDSP project is fully funded by the German federal foreign office and aims at providing expertise and technical support to strengthen the professional capacity of Sindh police.
The next donation will consist of furniture for the Police Training College, Saeedabad. Five state-of-the-art fingerprint systems worth 100,000 dollars are also in the pipeline for training and forensic purposes. Modern investigation kits/tools worth some $ 120,000 will also be donated at some time later during this year.
The CDSP project is also meant to assist the police in conducting specialised courses in police training institutions in the province. In this regard, the project staff is working closely with the training branch of police and with the “Need Assessment Group” of Sindh Police headed by the Additional IGP (CID).
In December last year, the GIZ organised two workshops for police officers with focus on the importance of forensics and crime scene investigation. More than 500 police personnel of the police attended and completed the workshops.
Additional IGPs of Special Branch and Sindh Police, and DIGs of Training and Establishments Branches and Headquarters, and former IGP Sindh Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak as well as the management of the CDSP project also attended the ceremony.
