Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday took notice of the alleged torture on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Fahad Aziz and has sought a report over the incident from Inspector General of Sindh police within 24 hours, PM spokesperson has said.
The spokesperson added that the prime minister has also issued instructions to find out those responsible for the incident.
Also on Tuesday, Sindh High Court issued instructions against harassment of Aziz who was picked up on his wedding day and was allegedly tortured.
The court issued notices to the parties in the case including DG Rangers, IG Sindh and Karachi Police chief along with others and instructed not to harass Fahad Aziz and his family.
During the hearing, the SHC also sought medical report of Aziz and the log book of the police station, where he was held, within 15 days.
On Monday, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar, Aziz and his father filed a petition against the arrest and torture of Aziz by policemen.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar issued notice to respondent officials and chief provincial law officer, and adjourned the hearing till Feb 11.
Fahad Aziz was arrested at Shah Faisal area late on Saturday while he was leading his Baraat.
He was later shifted to a hospital on complaint of stomach ache, which his family claims resulted due to torture by the police.
According to SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah four policemen including the in-charge of the investigation team had been suspended for torturing the MQM worker.
MQM members of the Sindh Assembly had staged a walk-out on Monday to protests against the arrest and alleged torture.
