ISLAMABAD – In a rare show of anger by one of the most trusted friends of Pakistan, the Saudi envoy on Monday expressed his displeasure over the out of context involvement of his country in the release of Raymond Davis, the killer of two Pakistanis. During a meeting on Monday, Ambassador Abdul Aziz bin Ibrahim Al-Ghadeer told Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani that his country had no role whatsoever in Davis’ release episode. “Saudi Arabia did not play any role in getting Raymond Davis released and all news items published or broadcasted in the media were concocted, baseless and without any evidence.
This all looks a part of some conspiracy aimed at damaging the bilateral relations between both brotherly states. Neither my country facilitated the process (of release) nor have we anything to do with the internal affairs of Pakistan. It’s up to the Pakistani government, its courts and people to take its decisions,” a source quoted the Saudi ambassador as telling Senator Durrani, who called on the envoy to express gratitude for the generous assistance provided to the flood-hit people of Pakistan by Saudi Arabian people and their government.
“None of the family members of the families of two Pakistanis killed by Raymond Davis (Faizan Haider and Faheem) did visit Saudia Arabia and such news items are aimed at damaging the strong ties between the people of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. But let me tell you that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are not influenced by any third country,” the source added. The source said the ambassador said neither Khadim-ul-Harmain Sharifain King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz nor the Saudi government could even think of taking a step which could jeopardise the respect and sovereignty of Pakistan.
