Residents encage councillor in rubbish pile in India

Residents in the north Indian city of Kanpur forced a local councillor onto a heap of trash in protest against overflowing drains and piles of litter had not been cleared for two months in the area.

Residents confronted Councillor Manoj Yadav in Patel Nagar, threw him in to a heap of rubbish and did not let him leave until he promised to arrange for the authorities to attend to the area.

According to media reports, the residents had taken the matters into their own hands and were removing rubbish and cleaning drains them, when Mr Yadav arrived at the location.

“Some people pushed me into the garbage heap, it was wet, and they did not let me come out of it for an hour,” he said.

Yadav has decided not to lodge an official complaint against those who pushed him onto the rubbish heap.
