KARACHI – “I observe and absorb the environment and issues that surround me. In time, these issues develop a distinct relationship with my thoughts, resulting in a discourse of a profound and meditative nature,” Usman Ghouri says. The open-ended dialogues of such a discussion share a presence in Ghouri’s work without prejudice or judgment. Born in Sukkur, Ghouri received his Bachelor of Design degree from Lahore’s National College of Arts in 1992, and his Master of Arts degree from Australia’s University of New South Wales in 2000.
He has been teaching printmaking since 1996 at Karachi’s Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture. He has had a number of nationwide solo shows and has also participated in several international group shows in the USA, the UK, Japan, Oman and Mauritius. He worked for VASL, a local chapter of UK’s Triangle Trust Network in 2004. In addition, he also attended the International Artist Workshop in Mauritius the same year. Presently, he lives and works in Karachi.
