The Lahore High Court (LHC) Complaint Cell Saturday took notice of a youth’s death at the hands of the police allegedly due to torture.
The cell took notice on the administration side and directed the District & Sessions judge, Gujranwala, to look into the matter and submit a detailed report on steps taken by police along with his own comments within a week.
The notice was taken on a press report which said 24-year-old Sufiyan, of the suburban Aroop area, worked at an auto workshop in Kamoke but some time ago he quit the job. The workshop owner Sarwar submitted an application with police station alleging that Sufiyan had stolen Rs 10,000 and spare parts from the workshop. On this, police called Sufiyan from his house and the next day police officials shifted his body to hospital.
After learning the death of Sufiyan, his family reached the hospital. They protested against the police and chanted slogans.
