Pakistan, Russia agree to share information to fight terrorism, transnational crime

The fifth meeting of Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on Counter-terrorism was hosted by Pakistan on Sunday.

Pakistan delegation was led by acting secretary Imtiaz Tajwar while the Russian side was led by Alexander V Zmeyevskiy, the special representative of the president of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation in the Fight against Terrorism and Transnational Crime.

During the meeting, the two sides shared views on regional and national threats and effective way to counter them. The two sides also discussed mutual cooperation in countering drugs trafficking, anti-money laundering and combating organized crime.

Cooperation on relevant issues at the regional and international levels was also reviewed. Both sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation and sharing of information to effectively counter threats to national and regional security.

Commencing in 2002, there have been four rounds of discussions on counter-terrorism between Pakistan and Russian Federation. The last round was hosted by the Russian Federation in 2009 in Moscow.
