LAHORE – The Political Science Department lifted the prestigious general trophy at the closing ceremony of the 111th Annual Sports of the Government College University Lahore on Sunday. GCU Biotechnology Department stood first among girls.
Punjab Minister and Old Ravian Main Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman was the chief guest at the ceremony marked by colorful and vibrant Gymkhana events. Girls competed in Chatti Race and History Department student Sadaf Aslam won the event. The tug of war between elderly Old Ravians and GCU sports board senior officials remained the most enthralling events of the GCU Annual Sports Day.
Zeeshan Akram won the most difficult competition of the day, the obstacle race. Khusboo Khalid Butt won the Musical Chairs. Humayun Rasheed, an old Ravian, won the Handicap Race. A group of intermediate students topped the four legged race. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikram-u-Haq (SI) said sports make a person better.
He added that sports teach tolerance and encourage the spirit of competitiveness. Khursheed Ahmed from the Political Science Department bagged the title of the Best GCU Athlete with three gold medals. Muhammad Zeeshan of Geography Department was declared the second best athlete. Announcing the results, GCU Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan said that GCU believes in fair play and merit.
