A shutter-down strike was observed on Saturday in different towns of Sindh on the call of the Jeay Sindh Mutahidda Mahaz (JSMM) in protest against the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance and the statement relating division of Sindh given by the MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
All the shops and business centres were closed in interior Sindh including the cities and towns of Larkana, Dadu, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Sehwan and Nawabshah while traffic on the roads remained thin.
Shops and fuel stations were also closed in Nausheroferoze, Tando Mohammad Khan, Jamshoro, Mehar and other small towns of interior Sindh.
However, a partial strike was observed in the second largest city of Sindh, Hyderabad, as business centres remained closed at Qasimabad, Hussainabad, Autobhan Road and Gull Centre, while the road traffic was also less than normal, besides traffic on Indus Highway and Super Highway was also hit by the strike causing great inconvenience to the citizens.
The police arrested several workers of nationalist parties after a series of cracker blasts in interior Sindh and Karachi while around 13 SHOs were suspended over negligence.
The strike call was given against the statements of the MQM chief Altaf Hussain who demanded the division of Sindh.
