Eight coal miners on Friday were freed by kidnappers in Harnai district of Balochistan, officials have said. They were abducted from the Shahrag area of Harnai district on Dec 25.
According to a levies official, Sajjad Gul Kakar the coal miners were dropped by the kidnappers in nearby mountains.
“Miners are back and they are safe,” Kakar said.
On questions of the ransom amount paid to the kidnappers for the release, Kakar declined to comment.
Union of Coal miners Pakistan Mines Labour Association leader Bakht Nawab criticized the government for its failure to protect the coal miners who work in worst conditions in the mines of Balochistan.
The association had earlier urged the authorities to ensure the abducted miners are recovered safely.
