- PML-Q senator wants “offense against the State” to replace “high treason” in Constitution’s Article 6
Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) President Senator Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain presented draft amendment in Article 6 of the Constitution in the Senate in which it has been stated that in sub-sections 1, 2 and 3 of the article, word “high treason” should be replaced with “offense against the State”.
It has been stated in the objectives and reasons for the amendment that word “high treason”, which has been used in Article 6, creates the impression that the person involved in this crime has, with the enemy forces, done some work against the State.
Shujaat believes this impression to not be correct.
He reiterates that the word “high treason” should be changed with “offense against the State”, also in sections 120 to 130 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Alternate amendment should also be made in Criminal Law Act 1973, he adds.
In the letter, addressed to the Senate chairman, along with the draft amendment, it has been stated that the draft should be presented in the house and after debate and discussion it should be passed through the process of approval.
