The Lahore High Court on Thursday cancelled bail of a factory owner involved in power theft case of Rs 35 million.

Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar passed the orders while accepting a petition filed by Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) for bail cancellation of Mian Ijaz, owner of Riaz Electric Works.

The LESCO through his plea submitted that a case was registered against the accused factory owner for stealing electricity through a bogus metre. However, a sessions court granted bail to the accused despite clear evidence of his involvement in electricity theft of Rs 35 million, the company added. The LESCO pleaded the court to cancel the bail of the accused being illegal.

The court summoned the accused many times but he failed to appear. On last hearing, the court issued his arrest warrants for January 2 but today again he failed to appear. The court took a strict notice of the accused’s absence and cancelled his bail.
