Restaurant owners continue their search for gas, capital’s residents continue to get served cold

Even after the closure of CNG stations, low gas pressure is affecting commercial activities in the capital, depriving hundreds of people of their livelihood.

The shopkeepers and residents said the government should chalk out a plan for the smooth natural gas supply to domestic consumers.

Jahageer Khan, a tandoor owner at Farooqia Market F-6/1, said that due to low gas pressure they were compelled to use Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) or firewood for continuing their businesses.

Parvez Khokhar, who runs a catering business, said lack of gas meant loss of business. He said that he had a commercial meter but due to the low gas pressure, he had switched to LPG.

“I have to meet deadlines so I have to use the expensive fuel (LPG) to meet orders. The low gas pressure badly affecting my business he said, but if I refuse orders, it would be detrimental for my business,” he said.

A restaurant owner in Super Market said that the winter is high time for restaurant business as many people visit the market for Samosa, Halwa Puri, Kashmiri Tea, Chicken Corn Soup and other products but they had failed to serve them hot food, as the gas pressure was too low.

An SNGPL official said the problem was due to the difference in demand and supply. He said SNGPL teams would check the problems of affected areas and would resolve the issues soon.
