Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned an important meeting on January 1 (Wednesday) for resolving the conundrum of Local Bodies (LB) elections in Sindh and Punjab.
Sources told said the ECP has three ways to come out of this dilemma to conduct polls in Sindh and Punjab. The three ways for the ECP are: to move to Supreme Court of Pakistan, to postpone elections at its own and to change the date of elections.
The LB polls in Punjab were due on January 30 and in Sindh on January 18; however, the printing presses excused to print ballot papers within the due date.
Sources in ECP raised queries saying how it was possible for the ECP to persuade the SC to postpone or reschedule LB polls when Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Nasirul Mulk has already passed strict directives to hold LB polls in time.
Therefore, the new year’s meeting of the ECP is vital to reach a conclusion in this regard.
