Minister of State for Interior and Narcotics Control Baleeghur Rehman has said that Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) government always adopted merit for all appointments and promotions.
Answering a question of Senator Sughra Imam on Friday in Senate, the minister said that incumbent government appointed all officials according to the laid down procedure and further appointments would be made on merit. He said that during past six months, all promotions, appointments were considered after the recommendations of the board.
The minister said that promotion of any officer depended on his/her past service record with availability of post, seniority position and achieved course.
Promotion of ex-cadre police officers of ICT police in BS-17 and BS-18 were allowed by the Ministry of Interior and junior police officers from constables BS-5 to inspector BS-16 were promoted by the Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP), he informed.
The minister told the house that in 1999, five inspectors, 40 sub inspectors, 36 ASIs and 36 HCs were promoted, 13 sub inspectors, 15 ASIs and 83 HCs were promoted in 2002, 67 inspectors, 187 sub inspectors, 127 ASIs and two HCs in 2004, while in 2005, 14 SPs, 297 ASIs and 679 HCs were promoted.
