KARACHI – Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Musheer Alam on Thursday directed District and Sessions Judge Fahim Ahmed Siddiqui to conduct a detailed inquiry into the Hyderabad Central Prison incident.
Alam also directed the authorities concerned for the proper treatment of the prisoners injured in the mayhem that left at least seven prisoners dead and more than seventy seriously wounded. Taking notice of the incident, the SHC chief justice had directed the Hyderabad district judge to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the incident.
On Thursday, Siddiqui presented his initial inquiry report to SHC Registrar Abdul Rasool Memon, who forwarded it to the chief justice.
The chief justice has instructed the sessions’ judge to inquire how such quantity of arms, ammunition, drugs and mobile phones were sent inside the prison as claimed by the jail authorities and investigate the involvement of jail officials. Alam also directed that detailed inquiry should be held on those prisoners killed or wounded and the damage done to the jail building during operation.
Meanwhile, Siddiqui, in a statement issued through the Hyderabad Sessions Court superintendent, denied the impression being created by the jail authorities that the operation was conducted on court directions. It is pertinent to mention that all political parties, including the ruling PPP, have condemned the police action inside the Hyderabad jail and termed it as brutal.
