Lawyers across the country on Wednesday boycotted courts on the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).
The lawyers boycotted courts and did not appear in cases, leading to their adjournment by the judges at the Supreme Court, high courts, sessions courts, civil courts and all other district courts in the country. Litigants faced problems as they had to return home without progress in their cases.
Earlier on Tuesday, the PBC announced strike and boycott of the courts. Lawyers from various districts of Punjab protested outside the Supreme Court and demanded establishment of the Lahore High Court (LHC) benches in Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Sargodha and Faisalabad Divisions.
Clashes among police and the lawyers erupted when they tried to enter the SC building. Police baton charged and fired teargas to disperse the protesters.
Many lawyers and the Islamabad assistant commissioner were injured in the clashes.
All the injured were shifted to Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad, where lawyers also scuffled with doctors.
According to lawyers, the divisional benches of LHC were need of the hour to provide easy justice for the people at their doorsteps and save their time and money.
