Shah criticises PM for delay in COAS appointment

Opposition leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over delay in appointment of the new army chief as General Ashfaq Kayani is set to retire on November 28. Taking to reporters outside the Parliament House, he said the appointment of a new army chief should have been finalised a month ago, adding that it was not appropriate to stall on the issue.
Furthermore, the opposition leader advised the premier not ignore the aspect of seniority in the process of choosing a new chief of the armed forces.
He said that the government should start negotiations with Iranian government to complete gas pipeline project following agreement between Iran and five Western powers on nuclear issue.
To a question, he said the PML-N did not fulfill its promises made with the people during May 11 elections campaign.
He said the PML-N was supporting policy of the Taliban and interior minister had given statement in support of the TTP.
He said the PTI and PML-N came into power with the support of the TTP, adding that one party was categorically supporting the Taliban and the other was doing work for Taliban in different manners.
He said the PTI wanted to survive by protesting against US drone attacks.
