HAFIZABAD – Civil Judge Iftikhar-un-Nabi has rejected the bail application of Karam Dad Bhatti in a case of fraud worth Rs 53.9 million and sent him to jail on judicial remand. Meanwhile, the Jalalpur Bhattian police have registered another case against Karam Dad Bhatti, a close friend of former Bank of Punjab president Hamesh Khan and former BoP Jalalpur Bhattian branch manager Asghar Ali on the charges of stealing 750 sacks of rice worth Rs 56.2 million.
Reportedly, the Bank of Punjab Hafizabad branch manager lodged an application against Karam Dad Bhatti, who had already been arrested in a corruption case, and former BoP manger Asghar Ali for registration of a case on the charges of stealing rice worth Rs 56.2 million. DPO Tariq Chohanm, after a preliminary enquiry, directed the Jalalpur Bhattian SHO to register a case against the accused.
COW HIT ITS OWNER TO DEATH: A cow hit its master to death in Housing Colony, Hafizabad the other day. Reportedly, Muhammad Akhtar Billoo Gujjar, a resident of Housing Colony, was taking his cow towards the fields when the animal got enraged and fled. When its master tried to catch the animal, it hit him and injured him seriously. He was rushed to hospital, but doctors could not save him.
MAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT: One person was killed and another injured in a road accident on Sarghodha Road near Pindi Bhattian. A costar was on its way to Lahore from Sarghodha. When the vehicle reached near village Thatta Bhattian near Pindi Bhattian, it collided with a car coming from the opposite direction. As a result, the car rider, Ahmad Alam, died instantly while his friend, Muhammad Imran, was injured and shifted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad in critical condition.
CALL TO BAN VISITS OF MONITORING OFFICERS TO GIRLS’ SCHOOLS: Social circles have expressed concern over the attitude of the monitoring officers who target girls’ schools and remain present there for many hours. The Awami Mahaz president and other social circles have demanded the Punjab chief minister ban the entry of male officers into girls’ schools and appoint only female monitoring officers if necessary.
Reportedly, the Punjab government has appointed monitoring officers to supervise the construction work under Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme at police station level. But these monitoring officers have targeted female schools and enter the schools without informing their heads. The female staff and the parents of the students have expressed concern over their long and frequent visits.
It was revealed in a monthly report of the district monitoring officer sent to the district coordination officer Hafizabad that the monitoring officers visited total 39 schools of which 29 were female ones.
UNSCHEDULED LOAD SHEDDING IRKS CITIZENS: Unscheduled load shedding has made the life of citizens miserable while students are the hardest hit segment of the society as the examination season has started and they have to study for preparation. Stoppage of power looms and other factories is increasing unemployment and labourers are unable to get their two-time food.
Citizens, students, labourers and other circles have demanded end to unscheduled load shedding of eight to 10 hours.
