Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain on Monday called upon several clerics and religious scholars and urged them to demonstrate exemplary patience and unity over sectarian riots in Rawalpindi.
Hussain contacted Jamia Binoria head Mufti Muhammad Naeem on phone and talked about the prevailing situation.
“Whatever happened in Rawalpindi is no less than a tragedy. I express my condolence with the families of those killed in the unrest,” he said.
He said that Pakistan was passing through a critical phase and that there was a well-planned conspiracy to spark sectarian tension in the country.
The MQM chief said that ulema from all schools of thought need to show unity and patience.
Speaking on this occasion, Mufti Naeem said that some forces want to create Iraq and Syria like situation in Pakistan by fanning sectarianism.
