KARACHI – A constitutional petition was filed on Wednesday in the Sindh High Court for the implementation of consumer laws in Sindh. Rana Faiz ulHassan of United Human Rights moved the petition, stating that the court had issued directions to the Sindh government to implement the consumer protection law in Sindh, but till now, no concrete measures had been taken.
The petitioner argued that due to the absence of consumer law, citizens are being adversely affected. The prices of routine items are being regularly and unabashedly increased. Citing statements of the chief secretary and dairy former association representatives, the petitioner said the price hike in milk prices was but one example of unchecked increase in prices, given how they had been increased thrice in two months.
He said that the consumer laws exist in the other three provinces as well.
