Chances of peace talks ‘below zero’, say Taliban

The Taliban have ruled out talks with the government, saying the chances of negotiations after the killing of their leader Hakimullah Mehsud in a US drone strike were "below zero".
Senior Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan leader Ihsanullah Ihsan, in an interview to Newsweek Pakistan, claimed Mehsud's killing last week was a violation of Pashtun culture.
"After this incident, there can be no peace talks. It would be too generous to say that the possibility of peace talks is zero; the chances are, in fact, below zero," he said.
"You can't engage someone in peace talks and then attack his home and kill his father. Hakimullah Mehsud was our leader, our hearts are heavy and our anger will soon be felt by everyone," he said.
Ihsan described Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan's criticism of the drone strike that killed Mehsud as "shedding crocodile tears". He claimed the "ruse of peace talks" has been used to eliminate Taliban leaders one by one.
"This is their strategy: they distract us from our security priorities through offers of talk and then eliminate our leaders. We will not allow this to persist," he said.
Asked about the interior minister's indignation over the drone strike, Ihsan said Khan was expressing guilt over his government's involvement in a "wrong act".
"But his government should have been more positive and proactive from the start. When they are so incompetent that they can't defend their own country and they can't defend their initiative for peace talks, do they even deserve to govern? They are (American) slaves," he alleged.
Asked if he was suggesting the Pakistan government was involved in drone attacks, Ihsan said he was "110 per cent" sure the country's security organisations were involved.
"For every drone attack, about 80 per cent of the information and ground intelligence is provided by Pakistani security organisations," he said.
"Then how come Chaudhry Nisar is shedding crocodile tears? Chaudhry Nisar is responsible for the security of Pakistan. It's his job, not the army's, to run the system. If the politicians are not in charge, how is it possible to talk with these helpless and incompetent creatures?" he said.
"Our policies are not based on personalities. Whether it's (army chief Gen Ashfaq) Kayani or (former premier Yousaf Raza) Gilani or anyone, we are fighting against the system and that will continue."
Asked about Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan’s remarks declaring Mehsud a martyr, Ihsan said he was thankful to the JI chief and respects his views and feelings.
The Taliban leader said that Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was the only good man in the current system.

  1. Political leaders, intellectual and media men are so scared of American, true to the best comments, Pakistanis can even sell their mother for the sake of money. For centuries patrion call their motherland to their living in. Elite in power has always sold it to American and leading one is the Musharraf who proudly said "In the line of Fire" that he sold Pakistanis for dollars . One can understand why the Taalbaan hate this elite in Power.

Two brothers within a family can destroy the whole family because of their enmity. Pakistan is widely known for such stupidness. Taalbaans and elite belongs to Pakistan if they contibue fightnig then benificiary shall be the Uncle Sam and loosers guess who ? people of Pakistan.

Wake up Pakistan and people of Pakistan and fight for your right.

    • What truly destroyed this motherland was Zia who propped up these religious zealots who are now creating havoc all over the place in the name of promoting their twisted idiology and "their" brand of Shriah. If you want to fight uncle sam then get ready to change yourself and become a better person which will eventually help break the begger's bowl, because beggers can't be choosers. Stop pretending that Taliban's are friends of the nation. Anyone who does not hesitate in killing innocent people cannot be a friend.

  2. Take it as we do not like their brand of Sharia then why don't we impose our brand of Sharia that really facilitate the people of Pakistan at grass root level. If any one think that present elite in power inclusive the Generals are interested to fulfill the needs of the people then we are living in paradize of fools. System needs changes but that cannot be done unless people of Pakistan get up and get united under the leadership that comes out of grass root level.

    • Shariah needs to be first interpreted properly before it can be implemented. Laws that were designed centuries ago cannot be enforced the same way in this age. Unfortunately, we, the Muslims, have produced mullahs and not scholars and these mullahs have taken full advantage of that void and tried to highjack the religion. These so-called Jihadis use innocent kids as fodder BUT never ever use their own family members for that purpose, talk about the height of hypocrisy.
TTP is a cult and needs to be tackled accordingly.

  3. i just wonder what is the future of Pakistan.. It is the worst thing i think they could have done.. Now they have started the fire.. All of it could have ended with peace talks.. Hope for the best.. fingers crossed

  4. @amir;wt the hell are u talking…… no doubt we have produced mullahs that are really hypocrites, but think about our beloved PROPHET (s.a.w) hw He imposed this when the conditions were much worse as compared to the todays conditions .. so we can’t leave it as such.for this we muslims have to struggle so that it can be implemented… I think u r out of senses…being a muslim how can u utter such non sense

  5. No talks? Then crush them. The way the LTTE were eliminated in Sri Lanka should be a role model for our defence forces.

  6. The people having power in Pakistan since 60 years has brought the country at this level of disgrace. Only elite is enjoying having tight security around them at the cost of people of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It's true that TTP has gone the wrong track, killing innocent Muslims and it's citizen who have no say in the policies made by the elite. We must think over why the TTP has fallen in the hands of the enemies as well as ruler class in knees of Uncle Sam.

Who is suffering ? people of Pakistan. Hunger, unemployment, lack of social and welfare, poor health and poverty ? who is responsible ? The elite because the common man who is backbone of the country is sleeping. So we the people have to be united and throw all American agents, Seculars and fifth columnist in the Arabian Sea and together solve the problem of the nation. Peoples power is the most robust on earth.

    • This is the level of stupidity that the leaders have to deal with…your country is being attacked by TTP/ Taliban..the USA is killing TTP leaders and what do want to do?…get rid of USA?…wake up Pakistan! your enemy is the radical Islamists…not the west???how can you be so ignorant as not to see this?…
