The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday took notice of the matter of purchasing a bullet-proof vehicle worth Rs 40 million for the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor without approval from the prime minister.

According to media reports, SBP Governor Yasin Anwar ordered the purchase of a bullet-proof vehicle by declaring it part of his package perks. He reportedly did not seek approval from the PM and the Finance Ministry.

The Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) while identifying this irregularity in a letter to SBP said that by ordering an armored vehicle without the PM’s approval, the governor has infringed the rules of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) and if proved, the case can be converted into corruption reference against the governor.

On the other hand, the SBP’s spokesman has refused any such news and refused to comment on this matter.

NAB has, however, confirmed that it has sought explanation from the SBP and Finance Ministry in this matter.
