LAHORE – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) sought to distance itself from the pardon and subsequent release of CIA contractor Raymond Davis on Wednesday and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and National Assembly Opposition Leader Nisar Ali Khan denied on Wednesday that the Punjab government had anything to do with it.
Sanaullah denied the notion that the Punjab government had influenced the victims’ families and played a part in their deal with Davis. He said it was the decision of the court and the government accepted it. Nisar also said rumours of the use of force on the victims’ families for the release of Davis had embarrassed the whole nation. In a bid to defend his party from public backlash, Nisar demanded the federal government take the nation into confidence regarding Davis’ release.
“The special release of Davis has caused severe damage to national honour and dignity, now the international community will get the impression that every Pakistani is a selling stock,” he said, adding that whoever made the release of Davis possible in this manner was answerable to the entire nation.
