Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has decided to bring forward Sheikh Rashid Ahmed as opposition leader in the National Assembly to replace PPP’s Khursheed Shah, local media quoted party sources as saying on Tuesday.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader Senator Babar Ghauri have already contacted each other in this regard.

Sources claim that PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid had an important meeting in Rawalpindi in which core national issues were discussed.

Both the leaders said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had made deals with one another.

The PTI suggested the name of Sheikh Rashid as the opposition leader and also contacted other political parties in opposition for this purpose.

According to the statistics, PPP has 45 seats in the National Assembly (NA), whereas the PTI has 35 and MQM 24.

If both parties reach mutual consensus, the PTI and MQM would have more seats than the PPP and thus a new leader of the opposition might get elected.

Sources claimed that discussion with Imran Khan did not include selection of Sheikh Rashid as the new leader of opposition.
