Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday and discussed the appointments of chief of army staff (COAS) and the chairman joints chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC).
According to sources, both were of the view that appointments would be made on merit and in line with the constitution.
The president will approve the summary for the appointments of COAS and CJCSC after which an announcement will be made.
On Monday, the prime minister in a statement had said that the appointments of the COAS and CJCSC will be announced together.
The tenure of General Khalid Shameem Wyne as CJCSC expired on Tuesday and COAS Ashfaq Kayani replaced him as the acting CJCSC. Kayani’s tenure as the army chief will expire on November 29.
