Jammat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Syed Munawar Hassan has said that rule of Shariah can’t be imposed through use of force nor peace established on the base of force can be long lasting.

Addressing the leadership convention of Shabab-e-Milli at Mansoora, Munawar Hassan said only transparent and free elections were guarantee to restoring peace and change in the country.

He blamed that looters had occupied the central and provincial governments who didn’t let the country develop, prosper and masses to become self sufficient.

The JI leader alleged that the US was the biggest hurdle in the way of peace talks with the Taliban as it did not want destabilisation in the region.

He said the Taliban were desirous of power instead of Shariah. Had they been serious, today there would have been rule of Shairah in the country, he added.

He said earlier Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif talked about “Ali Baba 40 thieves” in government but now same elements part of the PML-N-led government had been declared innocent.

He supported the JI leadership stance of boycotting polls in Karachi in the larger interests of the citizens of the metropolis.
