Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan has said that Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan provinces have introduced laws for local body’s elections.

Talking to the media on Wednesday, the ECP secretary said that all the provinces wanted the local bodies’ polls as early as possible.

Ishtiaq Ahmed said that the provinces would formally request the ECP for holding polls in the first week of December.

He expressed that the commission will issue the election schedule 30 days after it received the plea.

He further said that the request would be made by all the provinces and the interior ministry. He said that 600 million ballot papers would be printed for the LB elections.

The secretary said it was the responsibility of the ECP to conduct the local bodies’ elections.

Committees at the national and provincial level have been constituted to monitor all the issues and for a pilot project at the district level, he said, and added that this will apprise the ECP in the next meeting.
