The Supreme Court announced that it has decided to delay the hearing of the Qisas case by 10 days.
In Islamic law, Qisas allows people to provide monetary compensation instead of receiving capital punishment for their crime.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry remarked that Qisas is a law that was administered to prevent disorder in society. However, presently, the rich have resorted to using it as a loophole to escape trial.

A five member bench will be constituted to hear this case as it is of key concern.

“Islam has rulings but they are not implemented and this leads to an increase in crime,” CJ Chaudhry added.

In the past, witnesses have been bought; Islamic laws are being used to further people’s own agendas, remarked Justice Jawad S Khawaja.

This decision follows Attorney General Munir A Malik’s written submission, seeking advice on the issue of Qisas from the Supreme Court. In his statement, Mr. Malik had asked 18 questions relevant to the Shahzeb murder case.

  1. What would Muslims say about this law had this been prescribed by any other religion but Islam?

  2. Please confirm whether our CJ is Muslim or someone else? If Muslim then send him to Lal Masjid which is nearby and they will educate him through their own means and methods about Qisas.
