The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday imposed a ban on roaming and sale and purchase of subscriber identity modules (SIMs) of Afghan companies and directed the authorities concerned to meet their responsibilities in this respect.

PHC Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan on Wednesday announced this decision while hearing a case pertaining to the use, sale and purchase of Afghan mobile SIMs.

Referring to involvement of National Data and Registration Authority (NADRA), the chief justice said, “It lacks credibility.”

He said Afghan SIMs were being used in 90 percent of criminal acts, adding that the authorities had failed to meet their responsibilities.

The PHC chief justice said, “The country doesn’t need such foreign investment which goes contrary to very interests of the country.”

Senior lawyer Latif Afridi welcomed the PHC decision, saying Afghan SIMs were used in extortion.

He said the authorities concerned and management of private telephone companies needed to go for an early implementation of the decision.

  1. The ban on buying and selling of Afghan companies' s SIMS is very appreciable and these steps should have been taken earlier, but anyhow it is not too late. We welcome these steps.the borders of Pak-afghan must also be sealed and 100 % extremists and terrorists are coming from Afghanistan.
