Supreme Court (SC) has allowed authorities to draw Rs. 135 million from banks for payment of utility bills and disbursement of salaries among the employees of Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

A 2-member bench of SC headed by Justice Ejaz Chaudhry took up EOBI corruption case for hearing on Tuesday.

Counsel for DHA, Irfan Qadir appeared in the court. He told the court that 135 million rupees are immediately needed for the payment of employees’ salaries and utility bills. He pleaded to the court to accord permission to draw this amount from the banks.

Tariq Mehmood, counsel for Eden Gardens told the court that the FIA confiscated the passport of his company’s director on his return to Pakistan from his foreign trip. “He has to proceed to Saudi Arabia for performance of Hajj, therefore, orders be issued for return of his passport to him. I hold out assurance that whenever he is needed he will return to Pakistan.”

The court ordered the FIA to return the passport to him and adjourned the hearing of the case for two weeks.
