The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Wednesday declared the appointment of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General (DG) Khalid Chaudhry null and void.

A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad Khawaja and Justice Shaikh Azmat heard the case pertaining to the delay in construction of a new airport in Islamabad.

Announcing the verdict, the court declared the appointment of CAA DG null and void, stating that it was against the law.

During the proceedings, CAA Secretary Muhammad Ali Gardezi informed the SC that the issue of alleged embezzlement in the new Islamabad Airport project had been handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency for investigation.

He said there was no supply of water, electricity and roads at the place allegedly allocated for the project.
