Punjab Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department has intensified a campaign against token tax defaulters.
Eight teams have been constituted for road checking of token tax defaulters. They fined more than 125 token tax defaulter vehicles daily, Punjab Excise and Taxation Director Imran Aslam said on Sunday.
The special teams work from 8am to 7pm daily and he himself also conducted surprise visits to judge their working, he said.
The director said a maximum number of token tax defaulters were fined at the picket near SaggianBridge. He said the E&T Department also arranged general hold up after one or two months to tack action against the defaulters.
The hold ups organised so far remained very successful in recovering money from the defaulters, he said adding, in the latest hold-up last Saturday an amount of Rs 30.998 million was collected. He urged people to pay their token taxes in time to avoid inconvenience. To a question, he said total collection of token, other taxes and fee related to vehicles in Lahore is in millions.
There are a lot of defaulters of the taxes as well, he said adding, the department is doing its utmost efforts to nab the defaulters and recover the amount payable against them.
