Pakistan is an independent and sovereign country and no compromise would be made on its national security, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Monday.
Responding to MNAs’ questions in the National Assembly, Nisar said, “No foreigner, including any American security agency, is allowed to function in Pakistan.”
To a question he said the ban on arms licences of prohibited bores would continue indefinitely. Nisar said the previous government had issued 70,000 arms licences of prohibited bore, which deteriorated the law and order situation in the county. He said no foreign company had approached the government for issuance of arms licences.
He said the government could not provide official guards to everyone, however added that protecting the people was the state’s responsibility.
“The government is ready to bring legislation in parliament to prevent cases of sexual assaults against minors. The term of punishment may be increased for this heinous crime,” he said in reply to another query.
To another question he said 98,000 Afghan refugees were living in the slums of Islamabad and most of them were criminals. “The registration process of these slum colonies will be completed within two and a half months,” he added.
The interior minister said there should be strict punitive action against elements involved in illegal activities whether they belonged to the police, the CID or any other secret agency.
He said NADRA had not given even a single national identity card to any foreigner. He told the House that some 154 foreigners were arrested and cases were registered against 81 of them from January 1, 2008 to August 31, 2013.
“NADRA has set up special centres for women who cannot come out of their houses…these centres are set up to facilitate such ladies and senior citizens.
He said there was also a facility available for womenfolk, who did not want their photograph to be pasted on their identity cards, adding that they could obtain their id cards without their portraits.
Which issues will be compromised with, Chaudhri Saheb???
