LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has directed the Lahore commissioner, Punjab Inspector General of Police and the Lahore capital city police officer (CCPO) to strictly monitor Elite Police Force personnel deployed for the security of American Raymond Davis, who shot dead two Pakistanis in Lahore on January 27. The directions were passed after personnel of the Special Branch pointed out three constables serving in the Punjab police, who had been wearing badges over their name plates indicating their religious association.
A letter written by the Home Department said that during a hearing, Special Branch officials noticed three constables, Adnan Ahmed C/20673, Muhammad Tariq C/20772 and Muhammad Asghar C/l7771, wearing the badges over their name plates. According to the letter, the said constables had been reluctant to remove the badges on orders by a DSP, telling him that they could not remove the badges to please Americans. The Home Department said senior officials should take special care in selecting security personnel for Raymond Davis, whose security had become the top most concern of the Punjab government.
Meanwhile, sources in Kot Lakhpat Jail claimed that law enforcement officials were thinking to shift Davis to Lahore Fort due to security concerns, but no final decision had been made.
