Seal unregistered SIMs immediately: PM Nawaz orders

Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, while chairing an important session on national security in Lahore, ordered to block all the unregistered SIMs on immediate basis, Geo News reported on Saturday.

According to a statement issued during the session, the Prime Minister said that amendments should be made in the anti terrorism law following the guidelines provided by the higher judiciary.

Director General Sindh Rangers briefed the Prime Minister about the law and order situation in Karachi after which PM Nawaz issued directives to block all the unregistered SIMs throughout the country with immediate effect.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had summoned the meeting to deliberate over the preparations and agenda ahead of the All Parties Conference along with the anti-terrorism policy.

The Prime Minister will also be briefed upon other issues including dialogue with the Taliban, policy against drone attacks, law and order situation in Karachi, Balochistan and other areas along with the situation at the Line of Control (LoC).

The leaders are also considering responses on the possible concerns that could be raised by the political parties’ leaders during the National security meeting or the coming APC on Monday.

The session, held at Nawas Sharif’s residence in Raiwind, is attended by Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid, Special Assistant to PM Khawaja Zaheer Ahmad, Interior Secretary and other higher officials.

Also, Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Director General Intelligence Bureau were also among the attendees.

  1. Good move…late than never, however, have the Rangers able to arrest 450 criminals, whose list was provided to PM in Karachi ? Not one ! because,, with so much hype created by all concerned and media, are those 450 or others will be waiting to be arrested…..?

  2. I guess government want to make media hype and do nothing! In real world, such operations are only disclosed to media once they are completed. However in Pakistan these are discussed over and over publicly to make such actions absolutely worthless.
    Why would criminals be sitting and waiting for you? why cant they move and hide for few weeks?

    I highly doubt this will be a success apart from catching some small time crooks, at the end Rangers will get bad name and ultimately Army will be called in. By the time Dubai, Afghanistan and FATA will host big crooks!
