The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Punjab inspector general (IG) to form a joint investigation team to recover Muddasir Iqbal, who has been missing since 2011.

These orders were passed by a three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed during the hearing of a petition filed by Muddasir’s mother for his recovery.

The mother apprised the court that her son went missing since 2011 when he went out to fetch some food items and medicine for her but never returned.

Additional Attorney General Tariq Khokhar submitted the initial report and said no secret agency had claimed detaining Muddasir.

The bench said police could trace Muddasir by focusing on the clues revealed by his mother.

Later, the SC adjourned further proceedings for 10 days.
